This package is the ideal way to see Australia's East Coast on a budget whilst meeting other like minded travelers. All our transport is on scheduled services of the national rail network, to ensure a comfortable ride between highlights. In each location you are looked after by local tour guides that know the region you are visiting and all the accommodation is centrally located and chosen for its amenities.....This is a great way to see Australia.

Day 1 & 2: Sydney to Byron Bay
We depart Sydney early from Central Station to start our rail journey up to Byron Bay. Here you can surf with dolphins at Australia's most easterly point, go for a latte in a street café or just chill-out in this hippie town & backpacker mecca.

Day 3 & 4: Byron Bay to Brisbane
Continuing north, we travel by coach for this short leg to Queensland's capital, Brisbane. This is a vibrant city with lots to do. You will have plenty of free time to explore at your own pace. Our accommodation is very central and in walking distance to most attractions.

Day 5: Brisbane to Hervey Bay
Hervey Bay is the gateway to Fraser Island and famous for viewing the annual whale migration. You will have some free time this afternoon to explore the sleepy township before joining in the fun at the resorts bar in the evening.

Day 6: Fraser Island
Fraser is a highlight for many people to Australia. This morning you will be picked up early for a full day of adventure on Fraser Island. Visit the Maheno Wreck, swim in Lake MacKenzie, go for guided walks in the tropical rainforest and enjoy a scrumptious lunch on the largest sand island in the world. In the evening we head back to the mainland to board the train to Airlie Beach

Day 7: Airlie Beach
On arrival into Airlie, you will check into your resort, then you will have free to explore this coastal resort village. There are many cafes, boutique shops, bars and restaurants to experience. Close by you have the marina and forshore which is a magnet for likeminded backpackers.

Day 8: Cruise the Whitsundays
The Whitsunday's is an archipelago that is made up of 74 tropical islands. Today we will sail on the famous Maxi-action Ragamuffin. This vessel is famous for winning many of the worlds most prestigious open water races. Enjoy yourself as you sail around these idyllic islands.

Day 9: Airlie Beach (B)
Today is a free day where you can either chill out at our backpacker resort or you can do one of the optional excursions like sea kayak in search of the endangered sea turtles or take a jet boat or ferry out to some of the islands .

Day 10: Cairns
We have an early start today as we re-board the train north to Cairns. Cairns is the adventure playground of Australia offering bungy jumping, white water rafting, kayaking, ballooning and diving. Here you have plenty of time to experience the Great Barrier Reef along with the other adrenaline activities that this town boasts....and then it is party time when the sun goes down.

Day 11: Great Barrier Reef (L)
Experience the Great Barrier Reef on our full day snorkel & dive cruise. Our vessel is one of the fastest to get you to the reefs meaning you get to spend more time snorkeling and exploring - you can also try SCUBA diving for a small fee. Lunch is included whilst on the reef

Day 12 & 13: Cape Tribulation & Daintree Rainforest
Today enjoy an unforgettable journey of fun, discovery and adventure exploring the majestic rainforests, pristine rivers and white sandy beaches of the World Heritage Listed Cape Tribulation and Daintree National Parks. Cape Tribulation is the only place in the world where two world heritage listed regions live along side each other. We will go on a cruise in search of wild crocs, go on guided walks in the national park rainforests plus also give you plenty of free time to explore at you own pace also.

Day 14: Cairns
Your package ends today after you check-out of the backpacker resort.
