Day 1 Hanoi
Hop onto a cyclo to discover Hanoi's unique blend of lakes, boulevards and busy markets.
Day 2 Vinh
Spend a night in the border town of Vinh, checking out the market for fresh Vietnamese dinner options.
Days 3-4 Vientiane
Slow down to the pace of sleepy Vientiane, where the morning market stays open all day and dusty riverside paths are packed with friendly children, dogs and chickens. A great way to round off a day of sightseeing is by dining at one of the many stilt restaurants set up high above the Mekong.
Days 5-7 Vang Vieng
Explore limestone caves, sample some fried bats or just take it easy in this laidback riverside paradise.
Days 8-10 Luang Prabang
The jewel in Laos' crown, Luang Prabang is bursting at the seams with temples small and large. Climb to the top Phu Si at sunset for magical views over the town or hop onto a songthaew to visit the gorgeous Kuang Si Falls.
Days 11-12 Mekong River
Unwind on a slow boat up the Mekong River to the Thai border, enjoying idyllic rural scenes along the way. Visit a nearby hilltribe village or veg out with a fresh fish dish in the frontier town of Huay Xai.
Days 13-14 Chiang Mai
Mystical yet modern, Chiang Mai is a charming place to spend a few days. Discover hidden temples in the Old Quarter or hire a bike to cruise around town.
Days 15-17 Hilltribe Trek
Head to the hills and hike through the rural villages of Thailand's northern hilltribes. Meet smiling locals in distinctive traditional dress and sleep in bamboo huts - an absolute trip highlight.
Day 18 Chiang Mai/ Overnight train
Day 19 Bangkok
Perhaps indulge in a relaxing Thai massage before boarding a train bound for the capital. Hit the streets for a taste of Thailand and feast on pad thai or a traditional curry.
